Kids Care Club

Would you like to be part of a club that makes a difference?

Join the Bay Farm Montessori Academy’s Community Service Club known as Kids Care Club.  Kids Care Club is open to all elementary students of Bay Farm Montessori Academy (EL 1 & EL2) and to the public (grades 1-6).  We always welcome new faces!  During our meetings we plan different ways to make a difference in our community near and far.  Meetings are held twice a month on Tuesdays from 3:30—4:30 PM during the school year.  Occasionally, we meet on a weekend or an additional time during the week to work on specific projects.

How do we make a difference?

Our motto: Caring and Helping Brings Smiles to the Community.  Each year we help and bring smiles to children and families in our local and surrounding communities as well as abroad.  This school year, 2008/2009, with the help of Bay Farm parent Maria Fawcett, we will be helping 22 girls who live in the Hogar De La Madre Micarelli Orphanage in Formosa, Argentina.  We have been writing them letters and have learned of their needs.  Among other things, they do not have art supplies.  However, they wish very much to be able to engage in artistic expression, which we have learned can be very therapeutic.  So we want to enable them to be creative and artistic and to heal from hardships through art.  On October 25th, 2008, at Bay Farm’s Annual Halloween Party (party starts at 1:00 PM and is open to the public) we will be collecting arts & crafts supplies to send to Argentina.  This art supply drive for the orphans is part of our annual Make a Difference Day project (see (http://www.usaweekend.com/diffday/index.html for details on Make a Difference Day: The National Day to Help Others).  This is only one of many exciting projects we will work on this year.  Maybe YOU will bring next idea for a great project!  Stop by one of our meetings or submit your idea to: antoniamclark@comcast.net.

KIDS CARE CLUB PROJECTS OF THE PAST

To give you an idea of some of the wonderful projects Kids Care Club has worked on in the past, here is a brief overview of our annual Make a Difference Day projects:

  • 1999 – Collected medical supplies and school supplies for a hospital in Nicaragua

  • 2000 – Collected money in front of stores in Plymouth, Pembroke, Marshfield and Duxbury to benefit UNICEF program
  • 2001 – Sold t-shirts designed by Kids Care Club members to benefit 911 fund; collected items for gift baskets to honor fire fighters in eight different communities
  • 2002 – Collected snack foods and Halloween costumes for children in two local shelters
  • 2003 – Collected children’s books and delivered them to the Carolina Hill Shelter
  • 2004 – Collected summer clothes to send to families in Florida, Haiti and Jamaica
  • 2005 – Collected change to buy gift cards for kids affected by Hurricane Katrina; made thank you cards and gift baskets for rescue workers
  • 2006 – Collected Halloween costumes, baby clothes, pumpkins and playground equipment for families at Carolina Hill Shelter in Marshfield
  • 2007 – Held book drive and collected books to start a library at Bradley Hospital, a place for children with psychological issues

In addition to our work around Make a Difference Day, we plan and complete approximately five to six local projects each school year.  Kids Care Club is always up to something good, and it is just one of the many expressions of community service in which the students, teachers, staff and families of Bay Farm Montessori Academy engage.
