Traditions

Bay Farm Montessori Academy has many traditions that support curriculum and community spirit. Led by faculty, parents, alumni and friends of the school, our traditions offer a glimpse into the heart of our school. These events and projects illustrate the commitment and effort of the community to support the students above and beyond the ordinary.
  • New Family Party: Hosted by the Head of School and the Board of Trustees, new families are welcomed into the community.
  • Curriculum Nights: Our faculty welcomes parents into the classrooms each fall for a night of presentations and panel forum for questions. If you are interested in learning more about the materials, philosophy or integration of the classroom, these nights are a must!
  • Parents' Nights: Parents are invited to share an evening meal of great food and conversation with other parents of children in the same room or program level. These nights are always delicious and informative. They are also a wonderful way to meet the families of your child's friends.
  • Haunted Theatre/Halloween Party: Join the kids as they celebrate the creativity of their costumes and enjoy the company of friends at the game and craft tables. The Elementary II students work collaboratively throughout the fall to present a Haunted Theatre in the Great Room. All in good fun, these events help raise funds for another of our traditions - the sixth grade trip.
  • Science Fair: Not to be missed, the BFMA Science Fair is an outstanding showcase of the fine work and learning of our kindergarten through grade 6 students. Some students build their own machines, try unique experiments and share their results, while others highlight hours of intense research on the subject of their choice. Students are offered feedback through appraisers, and are able to share their findings with other students and faculty.
  • Holiday Brunch: Students and their families are invited to join Santa in the Great Room for a morning of good cheer, yummy food, and crafts for all ages. Though BFMA teaches students to respect and appreciate many holidays, students are often enthralled by the jolly old man!
  • Auction: One of the year's biggest fund-raisers is also one the year's best, brightest and most-loved events in the school community - the auction. Dress up and peruse the silent auction, and then enjoy a delightful dinner before the live bidding. See the work of some of our favorite artists (our kids)!
  • Book Fairs: Dedicated volunteers of the Montessori Parents' Association have teamed up with The BookFair Company to offer an incredible array of reading material for all ages at two book fairs each year. Students enjoy shopping for their own selections, and parents love stocking up for holiday and summer reading!
  • Northern Lights: Both a tradition and a performance, Northern Lights is an experience that students never forget. Throughout the year students gather information on a selection of countries, and come spring begin to create a portfolio of what they have learned. Maps, videos, costumes, architectural models, cultural reports, travel brochures, instruments and more are examples of students' work for Northern Lights. Students display their work and perform songs, dances and ceremonies for BFMA families and friends one morning in the late spring.
  • Commencement: To acknowledge the hard work and dedication of our students, parents, faculty and peers alike honor accomplishments and take time to listen as the graduating students publicly share their gratitude and stories. Following the ceremony, the community celebrates a whole school party.
